Round #1 National Enduro- Sumter, SC

February 1, 2015

It was nice to be able to get away from winter and the frozen ground for ten days and enjoy some warmer weather and my dirtbike.  We packed the van and our little trailer and headed for South Carolina. Our destination was Travelers Rest. We are fortunate to be able to have a place to stay and ride there. We arrived Saturday mid-morning and when we got to the farm it was wet because of all the rain they got on Friday. We drove up to the bunk house and established our sleeping arrangements and hung out the rest of the day. I was really tired from the drive and decided to rest and get ready for riding at HRD in the morning.

The week was filled with riding at HRD, Randy Hawkin's farm and a riding area in North Carolina. During that week I checked my suspension and learned how to adapt back to a 2-stroke. I’ve been on a 4-stroke for the last five years, but am excited about switching back.

Race day started off with excitement and anticipation about the season. I was looking forward to racing at the National Enduros and being on my bike again. It has been four months since I had any seat time due to my arm injury and living in the great state of WI doesn’t allow for much riding during winter.

During the first test I battled with some arm pump and questioned my bike setup. I wasn’t sure if my arm pump was due to my bike or if I was just riding tight. We decided to leave the bike alone for test two and during that section I determined that some adjustments needed to be made. After those adjustments my time improved and my bike was working great. I felt better throughout the remainder of the race and had fun. I finished 17th in Expert AA and 41st out of 825 riders. I definitely know what I have to do to improve my results and I look forward to round #2.

I'd like to thank all my sponsors and my father for being my pit crew at the race.

Remember - Keep it between the trees!
