Hixton HareScramble.

Sunday July 29, 2012
We are back at CMJ Raceway in Hixton, WI for the last time this year. The morning of the race the skies were looking like it might rain. The kids race saw a couple of sprinkles but when the C and + 50 classes left the line it was a steady light rain for them the entire race. The rain stayed steady all the way up until the afternoon race. It looked as though we were going to have to fight the goggle issues ourselves but, by the time we were ready to race the rain had stopped and made the trail dust free for the most part. We lined up on the motocross start as usual but instead of your typical dead engine start they made us raise our right hand over our heads until the gun went off. I almost squeezed by Bobby Kau for the hole shot but didn't want to take us both out. I pulled in behind him and waited until we got off the moto track into the first woods section where I made my move and got around him and started to put my head down to try to pull away. On my second lap my dad showed me the pit board and I had a 45 second lead in a lap and a half. I wanted to continue to push myself and get a comfortable gap between me and the rest of the guys. I stayed focused the entire race and tried to  ride smart and smooth and mistake free. My lap times were pretty consistent the whole day as my fastest lap was my first and last lap of the day. I had an awesome ride and I took the overall by a big margin. I would like to thank my Dad for helping out with everything over the weekend and a big thanks to all my sponsors for everything they do for me. Thanks!!!

Fox Valley Offroad Park's Dual District Race.

AA row.

First turn.

One of the logs at scoring.
Last corner before the checkers!
Well the weekend started out like the last couple of weeks have been HOT!! I was really looking forward to this weekend's race. For one I have never been here before and that is always exciting going to a new facility to race since we usually race the same tracks year after year. And two I was looking forward to the bigger turnout that District 17 usually has. Since it was so hot and extremely dry down there the rider count was down a little bit which was expected. I rode my mountain bike around the track Saturday afternoon to see what I was in for on Sunday. The track had a lot of elevation change on the hill sides and two creek crossings. They have a really safe moto track and  a rocky dried up creek bottom that we winded down.  The course was going to be super dusty so a good start was definitely going to help you put some time on everyone. I had a good jump off the start but I was third going into the woods. Ryan Moss and Bobby Kau were right in front of me. Just a short time in the woods Bobby took an outside line and Ryan and myself got by him and started to pull away. Ryan led the first lap and a half and then he washed out on an uphill. I tried to get around him but there wasn't enough room so he got going again. He ended up tipping over at the top of the hill and I was able to go around him there and start to put some good fast laps in since I had a clear view of the trail with no dust. I rode a smart and good pace the whole day just trying not to make any mistakes and get through the heat and dust we had to deal with. My day ended well- I took the Overall  win by just over 1 minute. I had a lot of fun and would like to thank the owners for doing a great job with the course for what they have to work with. They kept the speeds down in the dust and tried to water everything that they could. I would also like to thank my pit crew, which consists of  Chase, Keri , Mom and Dad for sweating it out in the heat. Not to forget all my great sponsors that I have this year for helping me win races and just to go and have fun with everyone at the races THANKS!!!

Stone Lake Hare Scramble!!

Photo: GREAT RIDE J.D. at Stone Lake! Congratulations from the Straight Arrows!
Navigating through the rocks and trees.
I had a good ride today, I got to the front quickly and was patient. My start was ok, I got around everyone pretty quick and caught Nate at the halfway point of the first lap. I followed him for awhile and figured out were I was going to try and make a move to pass him, but on the third lap he made a mistake and went down in the rocks by the quarry. I Got around him and just tried to ride smart and hard, no mistakes. Then the skies opened up on us and made the course a little slick. I kept pushing it until the last lap. I knew I had a little cushion on Nate so I slowed it down a notch so I wouldn't make any big mistakes and throw it away, because I knew Nate would be pushing all the way to the finish to try and catch me. He made a lot of time up that lap but I had enough of a gap to ride smart and not chance going down hard in the slippery conditions. I finished the race with a win. The club did a great job laying out the course- there was more woods this year and less road and field, I like that. So a big thank you to them. This year everything we have been working on is headed in the right direction and my results have been showing it because this is my fifth straight win. A big thank you to all my sponsors and everyone that has helped me this year.

Racing to a Win on my Birthday at Hixton.

Rex and Will wishing me luck.

The AA Line.

Leading the race after two laps.

Our good gas stop- thanks pit crew.

The weekend started off good, we left for the race Friday night so we could sleep in and have a relaxing weekend at the races. I woke up early Saturday morning and headed out on the trail with my mountain bike to check out what they had in store for us on Sunday.  They got about four inches of rain the week before which was needed by the looks of it because it made the course conditions look really awesome. I was told that it was super dusty the weekend before so good thing for the rain other wise we would have been racing in a dust bowl. I think I pushed my bicycle more than I rode it thanks to Hixton's hilly landscape. I am glad I biked it the day before since they had some spots that were new that were hard to see where to go. When Sunday rolled around the temps started to climb. It was already muggy in the morning and with a 1 o'clock start it was going to be a warm one. We had 10 AA riders on the line. We even got some of the Minnesota boys to come and race this weekend. I got a decent start and was second going into the woods.  I followed Matt for about a lap and a half and he pulled over and let me by. I didn't know what was wrong but I figured something was up for him to just let me by that early in the race. When I got around him I put the hammer down and just tried to stretch my lead out from the rest of the pack. I knew Nate and Stavish would be pushing to try to catch me. I got a good amount of time on them the first three laps. Biking the course on Saturday really helped me as I could push it right away while the rest of the riders were trying to figure out were to go. The course was a little hard to see arrows in a couple of sections. By the time the checkers flew I had over a minute lead on second place. I really felt good all day in the heat and my bike was really working awesome. I would like to thank everyone that helped me out at the race and for the year so far. All my hard work this year has really been paying off. This is my fourth straight win and hoping to keep the streak going.

Thanks again to everyone and keep it between the trees!!

Taking The WIn At The Muddy Stone Lake Enduro!

THE AFTERMATH.
Well with all the rain they got on Thursday ( a total of 4-5 inches)  I really thought it was going to be a lot worse. It was still very slippery and demanding to go fast but it wasn't just a rut all day either. The first section was tight which I really like that type of trail. I had a good pace and mistake free made that section a great way to start the day. I set a good pace and maintained it to see were I stood for the day. Nate and I both had the same score so I knew I was on the right pace for the day for a shot at the win. I knew that if I had to I could push it a little more in the conditions if I had to. In the second and third sections I made a couple mistakes which cost me to miss the flips. So I was down 2 on Nate going into the fourth test. I just wanted to have a clean and mistake free section that way if any one would have any trouble I could gain back some time on them. A short while into the section I saw Nate on the side of the trail with his dad. I found out later he had bent his rear sprocket and had to change wheels. Knowing that he was sitting there I tried to not make any mistakes and have a good section. The section went well for me other than breaking my rear brake pedal. I lost the tip of the pedal half way through that section. When I got to the start of the last section I bent it out farther so I had something to use for the last section. The last section went good for me no mistakes but not having my whole lever made it hard to really push like I would have liked to. All and all I had a good day , it came down to who could go fast through the mud and rocks stone lake is known for and who could get their bike to the finish line in one piece. I came home with the overall for the day and I was happy. I would like to thank my pit crew and all my sponsors : moose racing, keytime motorsports , husqvarna, klim helmets, enduro engineering ,vesrah ,fmf, bell ray, pirelli, smith, ims, gpr, g2 ,UFO. Thanks again to the clubs that put the race on with out them we wouldn't be out there having fun and winning races.

Loose Moose Enduro!!

Start of the race row 20.

 We're off!!
Leaving Gas.

Stan, Chase, and I after the race.

This past Sunday was the Loose Moose Enduro near Marquette MI.  We set off for the weekend Friday night so that we could help out with the kids race (Mini Moose Enduro) on Saturday.  I helped out with a check on Saturday on the first loop of the race.  We burned a good number of riders because the kids race was a traditional Enduro format with time keeping.  I had a great time helping out and seeing all the kids with smiles on their faces riding in the perfect trail conditions.  When Sunday rolled around the temps were already warm in the early morning hours. I was excited for the race and was hoping to have a repeat of last year as I was the overall champion.  When the clock clicked to 9:20 I was off in the first section.  The section was a little over four miles long of tighter trail which was really good. I pushed really hard right off the start and had a good ride through that section dropping a 3 which at that point was the fastest time through that section with only one other rider doing the same. The second section was about eight miles long. It consisted of more flowing trail in what they call the plains. I had a really good ride through this section until I tried to get around a lapper near the end of the test. I couldn't stop in time to get around him as he was pulling over and I clipped his rear tire and went down.  Not that big of deal I thought until I got up and got going and went to shift and my lever was smashed into my footpeg. I was still able to shift and just kept pushing to the check out. When I came across the line I just missed zeroing that section by what the tip over cost me. I still had the fastest time of the day in that section with a 1. The next section also went well for me it was a 14 mile section and I had the fastest time of the day in this test too.  The fourth test of the day was another eight mile section and I had a good pace through this one, but had a little trouble with lappers. The last test of the day was for the A and AA only and they call it the Wee Wee hills. It is a very technical section that you just have to ride with a good pace and try not to race it because it will bite you if you try and push it through there.  I had a little trouble on the first big rocky up hill and one other rock wall that we had to climb. After that I just stepped it back a little bit and was more cautious in the more technical spots and wicked up where I felt it was safer to push. I ended up dropping 18 points in that section. I had a great time at the race as I ended up with the overall win once again. I dropped a total of 36 points and won the race. I would like to thank the UP Sandstormers for putting on a good event and everyone else that helped me throughout the day. Big thanks to all my sponsors:  Mooseracing, Keytime Motorsports, Husqvarna, Klim helmets, Enduro Engineering, Pirelli, FMF, Vesrah, Bel Ray, UFO, GPR, IMS, G2, EVS, Smith, and Alpinestar.  Thanks to everyone.

Hixton Closed Course Enduro

May 20, 2012
Start of the race.

Headed to the check out.

Overall Trophy

The new club South East Wisconsin Enduro Riders aka (SEWER) put on their first closed course Enduro this past Sunday. This was the first year WI has had this type of Enduro format.  The club did a outstanding job laying out the course with the land they had available. With scorching heat the day before the race looked as if it was going to be a hot race, but the temps cooled down for Sunday and it was only in the mid 70's which wasn't bad.  Since the trail was mostly existing I oped for minute one.  I usually don't want to be that early, but all the trail was either old or burnt in really well.  With taking minute one there would be no dust or lapers to deal with each lap so I could just concentrate on putting in fast laps.  My first lap was my slowest of the day because I made little mistakes in a couple of spots, but nothing major.  My next few laps I was getting more into my groove and starting to flow.  My last three laps I focused on beating my previous lap times.  I broke into the 8 minute laps, which was the fastest of the day.  The last lap I was 12 sec from dropping 7 points.  I had a good ride and ended up overalling the event for the day.  I would like to thank my wife, dad, and all my sponsors for all the support they give me.  I would also like to thank the club and CMJ for letting us race on their property.

Until next time keep it between the tree's!!
